Haiti: What is Your NGO's Kidnapping Policy?
Could you fill out a security survey to help other NGOs in Haiti?
News has reached me in Chicago that another American and her child have been kidnapped as of Thursday July 27. She is married to a Haitian who has been running a school. I can only imagine the panic going through the school leaders’ mind.
I am about 2000 miles away from Haiti so there is nothing I can do on the ground but I thought you might be able to help. Perhaps not in this case but in a way to handle potential kidnappings going forward.
I am asking you to fill out a security survey that will take about 15 minutes. I will share what you tell me in the September newsletter with the other subscribers to this newsletter. NO IDENTIFYING INFORMATION will be shared unless you give express permission.
This is a place to be frank with other leaders in organizations just like yours. You aren’t speaking to donors or volunteers - there is no need to put a brave face on it or mince words. Not to put too find a point on it but your information and experience could save lives.
After some reflection I decided to also ask you about another sensitive subject - finances. The security situation (and Covid) have changed revenue models for most NGOs in Haiti. I have some questions related to that too. I will also be sharing this information (with NO IDENTIFYING INFORMATION unless expressly allowed to) in the November edition
Thanks in advance.
(Just an alert for your next fundraising letter - Sept 8 is International Literacy Day.)
